Frequently asked questions

IoT monitoring,
explained.

What is IoT monitoring for rental equipment?

IoT monitoring connects equipment sensors or supported device feeds with the asset record. DreamzCMMS brings those readings together with condition alerts, maintenance work and performance views so rental teams can review equipment remotely.

Which equipment readings can be monitored?

The published rental offering includes temperature, vibration, pressure and usage data. Other supported signals can include humidity and voltage. The readings available for a specific item depend on its sensors, gateway and integration.

Can I use existing sensors or a telematics provider?

DreamzCMMS supports third-party sensor and gateway connections and publishes integrations with Monnit and Samsara. Existing hardware needs a compatibility review covering available signals, account access, data mapping and the intended workflow; not every device is supported automatically.

How current are the equipment readings?

Update frequency depends on the sensor, gateway, network and configured integration. Check when a reading was received before treating it as current. If a connection stops reporting, the last value alone does not show the present condition of the equipment.

How is condition-based maintenance different from predictive maintenance?

Condition-based maintenance responds to actual readings and configured limits. Predictive maintenance uses trends, patterns and service history to help anticipate maintenance needs. A threshold alert is not, by itself, a prediction of the remaining useful life of an asset.

Can sensor readings create work orders automatically?

Yes. DreamzCMMS supports configured parameters, thresholds and monitoring intervals that can generate a work order when received data meets the rule. Review the chosen asset, condition and resulting action before enabling the workflow.

Can alerts assign work and escalate important issues?

The published IoT workflow includes automatic assignments and escalations. Configure the responsible teams, priorities, notifications and escalation conditions for your operation. Creating an alert or a work order is separate from completing the physical inspection or repair.

Can we monitor rental equipment across multiple sites?

Yes. The rental IoT offering supports centralized monitoring across locations, with dashboards tailored by role or asset type and mobile-friendly access. Availability of current remote readings still depends on the connectivity and data sources at those sites.

Does IoT monitoring replace calendar- or meter-based servicing?

No. It can complement scheduled preventive maintenance by adding condition-based work. Continue the time- or usage-based service plan appropriate to the equipment, and use sensor events to identify additional work that needs attention.

Does predictive maintenance guarantee an exact failure date?

No. Predictive insights help with early warnings and maintenance planning; they do not guarantee that every failure will be detected or that a machine will fail at a specific time. Confirm the analytics available for your equipment and review the underlying readings, history and operating context.

What does VEDA add to the monitoring workflow?

VEDA can help staff find available equipment knowledge, review service history and prepare an inspection checklist or completion-summary draft. That assistance is distinct from sensor monitoring and predictive analytics. The team reviews the output and retains responsibility for maintenance decisions.

What should we prepare before an IoT monitoring rollout?

Start with an equipment list, the signals you need, existing sensors or gateways, and access to the relevant integration accounts. Agree the asset mapping, measurement units, monitoring intervals, thresholds and responsible teams, then test a representative sensor-to-work-order workflow before expanding.
